We are launching a large-scale 5-year state program for the development of cities and resorts, and 1 billion GEL will be allocated from the budget, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili stated at the Government meeting.

As the Prime Minister pointed out, under the program buildings, cultural and historical sites, will be rehabilitated and reconstructed in Borjomi, Bakuriani, Kutaisi, Tskaltubo, Telavi, Zugdidi, Batumi, Mtskheta, Stepantsminda, Mestia, and Kazbegi, also new recreation areas will be built, and existing ones will be renovated.

“I would like to comment on a few issues and introduce you to a very important initiative that we will officially launch, announce today. Before that, let me inform you that, two years ago, we started the Urban Development Program in every municipality. Said work was carried out in 63 municipalities, centers were upgraded, square gardens were built, and large-scale works were carried out. For this program, as you remember, we allocated 500 million GEL. This program continues in several municipalities, and now we are launching an even larger-scale state program. The City and Resort Development Program will span 5 years, and 1 billion GEL will be allocated from the budget. This year, we have already allocated 200 million GEL to that end. We have selected eleven locations, which I will list. These are Borjomi, Bakuriani, Kutaisi, Tskaltubo, Telavi, Zugdidi, Batumi, Mtskheta, Stepantsminda, Mestia, and Kazbegi Municipalities. Relevant work will start very soon. I will provide detailed information on this later. Concepts will be developed, the Municipal Development Fund will start working actively on the implementation of this program, the best architects and developers will be selected. Buildings, cultural and historical sites, will be rehabilitated and reconstructed. Also, new recreation areas will be built, existing ones will be renovated, and public gathering areas and new tourist attractions will be created. Our key goal is to gradually transform our country into a genuine European state. It must be a tidy, well-developed, beautiful state, cities, districts, villages. This is our plan. As mentioned earlier, 200 million GEL will be allocated this year. The Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure and the Municipal Development Fund will start working on it, and we will have results very soon,” Irakli Garibashvili said.
