Georgia’s Reconstruction and Development Company (GRDC) will invest GEL 10 million in the redevelopment of “Tbilisi Central”, aiming to transform the facility into a modern transport and commercial hub. The project, planned for 2026–2027, is funded by European and Georgian investors and targets improved infrastructure for both passengers and visitors.

The renovation will cover around 5,000 square meters and focus on upgrading the railway station area, including platforms and open spaces. A new 2,000 m² covered waiting hall will be built, alongside improved passenger services such as ticketing, luggage storage, children’s zones, reading areas, and food outlets. The design will be developed by Georgian architects and designers.

According to GRDC, the redevelopment is part of a long-term effort that began in 2007, but the new project aims to significantly improve passenger flow and bring the station closer to European standards. The railway station, metro, and central bus terminal will continue to operate as an integrated transport hub.

Tbilisi Central Executive Director Levan Karalashvili said the renovation will meaningfully improve the passenger experience and transform the station into a modern urban landmark. He noted that the project is a social responsibility investment rather than a commercial one, aimed at supporting the city’s development and creating a more comfortable environment for travelers, with the first phase expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
