The first stage of Tbilisi Central’s renovation project will be completed in the first half of 2027, with the entire space expected to be fully rehabilitated by the end of the year, Tbilisi Central CEO Levan Karalashvili said. The project, funded by the Georgian Reconstruction and Development Company (GRDC), involves a GEL 10 million investment and the renovation of around 5,000 square meters, including the railway platforms.
The project includes the rehabilitation of all three platforms, as well as new public spaces, a cafeteria, waiting hall, luggage storage and children’s area. The railway is also renovating the second and third platforms as part of the broader project.
Qaralashvili said the investment will improve the station’s appearance, accessibility and the value of the surrounding assets. GRDC is investing around GEL 10 million, while Georgian Railway is spending a similar amount on related infrastructure.
Around 2,000 people work at Tbilisi Central, while businesses operating there generate nearly GEL 500 million in annual revenue, according to Karalashvili. He described the complex as a “city within a city” and said the first stage of the renovation will be completed in the first half of 2027, with all rehabilitation works finished by year-end.
