First Deputy Minister of Finance, Giorgi Kakauridze, announced that 30 million GEL has been allocated in the 2026 state budget to cover arbitration dispute payments.
As Kakauridze told BMG, the payments will be made gradually, depending on specific agreements, and will not place a heavy burden on the budget within a single year. “Whatever we have to pay, it will not be a one-time payment. The process will depend on the specific case and agreement with the other party,” he explained.
According to the fiscal risks document attached to the 2026 budget, Georgia currently faces eight ongoing disputes in international arbitration, with the potential maximum disputed amount reaching approximately USD 4.8 billion. Of the seven completed disputes, Georgia has won four cases, while in three others the state was required to satisfy the claimants’ demands.
