Former First Deputy Minister of Agriculture Gela Khanishvili has returned to agribusiness, launching a new venture in partnership with Davit Beruashvili. The company is developing 32 hectares of Spanish peach orchards in Shindisi, with a total investment of around GEL 7 million. The first harvest is expected in three years, with plans to expand the orchards up to 200 hectares.
According to Khanishvili, the project is fully export-oriented, and investors have already secured agreements with Spanish partners to purchase the entire production. The orchards are being developed under GlobalGAP standards, using modern agricultural technologies and international expertise.
The project includes drip irrigation systems, boreholes, and imported infrastructure, as well as plans to introduce anti-hail protection systems, frost-prevention equipment, and an on-site weather station. Spanish consultants and the company “Agrovero” are supervising the agricultural process.
Around 40 people are currently employed in construction and infrastructure works, while 10–15 permanent specialists will manage the orchards in the future. The company also plans to establish a training center to help develop locally trained agricultural professionals.
