According to the latest data from June 2024, Armenia continues to experience a significant gender pay gap across various sectors of the economy.
The financial sector, as reported by the Telegram channel Your Beloved Economic Edition, remains the leader in wage inequality between men and women.
In June, men working in the financial sector earned, on average, 2.2 times more than women. However, experts suggest that this substantial difference may be partially explained by the practice of small financial company owners extracting profits through bonuses rather than waiting for dividend payouts, given the similar tax implications.
An interesting trend is observed in the mining industry. While the wage gap typically exceeds 40% in ordinary months, it narrowed to 28% in June, considering the annual bonuses and premiums paid. This indicates that the bonus system in this sector may partially offset the gender disparity in base salaries.
