Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze says that the government’s priority remains the continuous improvement of quality and expansion into new markets, with the goal of positioning Georgian wine globally as a premium product. He made the statement at a conference dedicated to Georgian Wine Day.

Kobakhidze noted that today Georgia has around 3,000 registered wineries and companies, and described the country’s winemaking sector as a strong and modern industry. He highlighted that over the past decade, targeted policies have significantly expanded export geography, with Georgian wine now present in 70 countries.

According to the Prime Minister, in 2025 Georgia exported up to 90 million liters of wine worth $268 million, and this growth trend has continued into 2026. He also said the number of producers has increased almost 30-fold, driven by state support and the entry of a new generation of winemakers, particularly in small and family-owned wineries.

Kobakhidze also emphasized Georgia’s unique viticultural heritage, noting that the country has over 525 endemic grape varieties. He recalled international recognition of Georgia as the cradle of wine civilization and the UNESCO status granted to traditional Qvevri winemaking, calling it a key element of Georgia’s cultural and economic identity.
