Georgia and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) have signed a loan agreement under the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor – Georgia Connectivity and Transport Improvement Project, allocating approximately EUR 158.5 million to Georgia, the Ministry of Finance has announced.
According to the Ministry, Georgia’s Minister of Finance, Lasha Khutsishvili, and Konstantin Limitovskiy, Senior Investment Officer (Public Sector, Global Projects, and Corporate Finance) at the AIIB, signed the agreement.
The project aims to construct four-lane highway sections stretching from Badiouri to Chalaubani (Lot 4 – 21.7 km) and from Chalaubani to Bakurtsikhe (Lot 5 – 9.1 km) along the Kakheti highway, as well as a road section connecting Gurjaani to Telavi (36.6 km).
The total cost of the road infrastructure project in the Kakheti direction stands at EUR 316.8 million. As part of the broader framework, the World Bank has already approved and allocated EUR 158 million to Georgia.
These investments in the road network mark another major step towards enhancing the efficiency of the Middle Corridor. The upgrades are also expected to bolster the productivity and resilience of Georgia’s transport infrastructure, supporting the country’s long-term economic growth.
According to the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure will serve as the executing agency for the project, while the Roads Department will manage physical implementation.
