During the working visit of the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Levan Davitashvili, to China, a Memorandum of Understanding on the Development of Transport Corridors for the China-Europe Railway Express, Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (Middle Corridor) was signed.

The agreement aims to deepen cooperation between Georgia and China to enhance the activation and efficient functioning of the Middle Corridor. It highlights joint efforts to attract additional cargo, optimize routes, develop infrastructure, and improve transport services. The parties also agreed to strengthen cooperation in areas like customs, transport security, and digitization. This initiative is expected to boost cargo flows between China and Europe through the Middle Corridor, further strengthening trade and economic relations between the two countries.

Considering the current regional situation, the strategic advantages of the Middle Corridor are attracting increased attention. The involvement of the Chinese side, including the launch of regular railway services, was noted as crucial for the route’s further development.

The meeting positively assessed the growing volume of cargo flow through the Middle Corridor, with a six-fold increase in the number of containers transported between January and July 2024.
