Georgia has the potential to substantially increase chicken meat production and boost exports to markets such as Central Asia and China, according to Revaz Vashakidze, founder of poultry producer Chirina.
Speaking to BMG, Vashakidze said the company is currently negotiating with Chinese authorities to obtain accreditation for exporting Georgian chicken to China. He believes the country has the capacity to become a much larger poultry exporter if the right policy measures are introduced.
He argued that the industry needs government support, particularly through VAT exemptions on chicken production. According to Vashakidze, such incentives would allow producers to double output, improve competitiveness, and expand exports, while Georgia's relatively limited domestic purchasing power makes foreign markets increasingly important.
Vashakidze added that expanding poultry production would also stimulate related sectors, including grain and animal feed production, generating broader benefits for the country's agricultural economy.
