მაკა ბოჭორიშვილი

Georgia’s Foreign Minister, Maka Bochorishvili, stated that a fundamental reform of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs began in 2025, aimed at creating a strong, flexible, and efficient diplomatic service capable of defending national interests and implementing government priorities effectively. She made the remarks during her speech at the “Ambassadors’ Conference 2025.”

Bochorishvili noted that out of Georgia’s 82 diplomatic missions, 36 were assigned new governors in 2025, highlighting the critical role of leadership in ensuring the proper functioning of the diplomatic service. She thanked the diplomatic corps for their work in a rapidly changing and often unpredictable environment, where global and regional developments directly affect the country.

She emphasized that current security challenges, geopolitical shifts, and rising uncertainties make the Ministry’s role even more crucial, particularly in the context of the ongoing occupation of two regions and the peaceful restoration of Georgia’s territorial integrity. Bochorishvili also stressed the importance of countering hybrid threats, disinformation, and external interference, which remain significant challenges to the country’s stability and sovereignty.

The Minister underlined that alongside experienced diplomats, Georgia needs a new generation of young, educated, and modern professionals committed to defending national interests. She added that the ongoing reform, including the development of a foreign aid mechanism, will enhance Georgia’s role on the global stage and strengthen international cooperation, ensuring that the country can contribute to global sustainable development goals.
