Georgia is Russia’s leading wine supplier by volume, but its wines remain relatively inexpensive compared with products from major European producers. A report published by the American Association of Wine Economists, based on UN trade data, shows that Georgia leads the Russian market in volume but ranks second in export revenue, behind Italy.

In 2025, Georgia exported 60.83 million liters of wine to Russia, earning $170.67 million. Italy shipped 58.64 million liters worth $234.41 million. The average export price of Georgian wine in Russia was $2.81 per liter, compared with $4 for Italian wine, $4.33 for French wine, $3.09 for German wine and $4.18 for Armenian wine.

Georgia’s average price was higher than that of several major suppliers, including Portugal ($2.69 per liter), Azerbaijan ($2.55), Spain and South Africa ($2.45 each), Argentina ($2.29), Serbia ($2.13), Chile ($2.04) and Moldova ($2.03).

Among suppliers to Russia in 2025, the highest average prices were recorded for Thailand at $65.21 per liter, although volumes were small, followed by Latvia at $7.19, largely reflecting premium re-exports, and Hungary at $7.02. Lithuania averaged $5.90, the Netherlands $5.26 and the Czech Republic $4.55 per liter.

According to recalculated Geostat foreign trade data, the average price of Georgian wine exported to Russia has fluctuated between $2.30 and $2.95 per liter in recent years. The price was $2.91 in 2020, fell to $2.32 in 2022, and then rose to $2.70 in 2023, $2.74 in 2024 and $2.81 in 2025. In the first eight months of 2026, it reached $2.93 per liter.
