Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili has departed for Kyrgyzstan on an official visit, during which high-level meetings with representatives of the country's legislative and executive branches are scheduled in Bishkek, according to the Georgian Parliament.
Against this backdrop, BMG examined the economic ties between Georgia and Kyrgyzstan, with trade, tourism and remittances forming the main areas of bilateral relations.
Trade
Trade turnover between Georgia and Kyrgyzstan reached $1.5 billion in 2025, marking a 16% year-on-year increase.
The sharp expansion in trade began after Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, when the re-export of vehicles from Georgia to Kyrgyzstan increased significantly. Compared with 2022, bilateral trade turnover surged by 1,437% in 2025.
However, trade between the two countries declined considerably in the first nine months of 2026. During January-September, bilateral trade turnover fell by 40% year-on-year to $653 million, primarily due to a decrease in vehicle re-exports.
Georgia's exports to Kyrgyzstan amounted to approximately $650 million during the period, down 39% compared with the same period of the previous year. Imports from Kyrgyzstan totaled $2.5 million, representing a 32% annual decline.
Passenger cars accounted for the overwhelming majority of Georgian exports to Kyrgyzstan. In the first nine months of 2026, Georgia exported passenger vehicles worth $620 million to the country.
Alcoholic beverages ranked second, with exports totaling nearly $5 million, followed by mineral waters and other mineral beverages at $4.4 million.
Georgia's main imports from Kyrgyzstan included leguminous vegetables, worth $612,000, and onions, valued at $325,000.
Tourism
Kyrgyzstan accounts for a relatively small share of Georgia's inbound tourism market.
In the first nine months of 2026, Georgia recorded 15,056 visits from Kyrgyzstan, a 7% decrease compared with the corresponding period of 2025.
Visitors from Kyrgyzstan accounted for just 0.3% of Georgia's total international visits during the period.
Remittances
Money transfers from Kyrgyzstan to Georgia reached $42.4 million in January-September 2026.
Based on this figure, Kyrgyzstan ranked 14th among the countries sending remittances to Georgia.
