Georgia Launches Unified Agro Co-Financing Program to Boost Agricultural Sector - Kobakhidze

ირაკლი კობახიძე

Georgia is launching a new agro co-financing program that will bring together all key areas of agricultural production under a unified support system, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze announced during the program’s presentation. He said the initiative marks a transition to a new stage in the development of the country’s agriculture sector.

Kobakhidze noted that global challenges such as geopolitical instability, logistical disruptions, and food security concerns require faster action, diversification of markets, and stronger local production. The new program is designed to address these challenges by consolidating state support mechanisms.

According to the Prime Minister, the program will focus on strengthening medium-sized farms and improving their long-term sustainability. State co-financing levels will increase, covering at least 50% of costs in primary production and 40% in processing and storage.

He added that agriculture remains one of the key pillars of Georgia’s economy. In recent years, agricultural output has doubled, exceeding GEL 8.5 billion, while agro-exports have grown 2.5 times to surpass $1.8 billion, reflecting the rising presence of Georgian products in international markets.
