Georgia May Allow Delivery Trucks to Use Bus Lanes at Night Under New Law Proposal

ბასლაინი

Georgia’s parliament is reviewing amendments to the Administrative Offences Code that would allow distribution vehicles to use bus lanes during nighttime hours. The proposal also introduces changes to traffic fines and penalties related to speeding and damage to green spaces.

Under the draft law, delivery and distribution vehicles would be permitted to stop and unload goods in bus lanes between 01:00 and 06:00. The specific requirements for eligible vehicles will be defined by an order of the Minister of Internal Affairs. Lawmakers say the measure aims to reduce daytime traffic congestion and improve logistics efficiency in urban areas.

The bill also revises speeding fines, introducing a more differentiated system. Minor and moderate violations would carry lower penalties, while high-level speeding would remain at 300 GEL. Officials argue the updated structure is intended to make enforcement more proportionate.

Additional amendments soften penalties for damage to urban greenery caused by traffic incidents, particularly within municipal boundaries. The overall package is presented as part of broader efforts to optimize traffic flow and reduce operational costs for delivery companies.
