Medicines remain a major component of Georgia’s imports. According to official statistics, in 2025 the country imported 15,744 tons of pharmaceuticals worth $680.3 million, 9.5% higher in value than 2024, though 2.4% lower in volume. The average cost of 1 kg of packaged medicines rose to $43.2, up from $38.5 in 2024.

The slight drop in volume was mainly due to reduced purchases from Switzerland, Germany, France, Hungary, and India, while the higher prices drove the increase in import value. Pharmaceuticals accounted for 3.7% of total imports, ranking third after light vehicles and petroleum products.

Turkey remained Georgia’s largest supplier, accounting for 25.2% of total pharmaceutical imports. In 2025, imports from Turkey reached $171 million (5,565 tons), up 1% in value and 16.3% in volume from 2024, making the unit price cheaper ($30.8/kg vs. $35.5/kg in 2024). The five-year trend shows a significant increase in imports from Turkey following the government’s so-called “opening of the Turkish market.”

Other top suppliers in 2025 included Germany ($81.9 million, 675 tons), Hungary ($59.5 million, 429 tons), Switzerland ($52 million, 94 tons), and France ($37.1 million, 159 tons). India, Egypt, Lithuania, Slovenia, and the Netherlands completed the TOP-10 list of pharmaceutical exporters to Georgia.
