Preparations are underway to begin honey exports from Georgia to China. According to the chairman of the Georgian Beekeepers’ Association, Mikheil Tetruashvili, the process includes registering exporting facilities on China’s customs portal and undergoing on-site inspections by Chinese authorities.
He said the main challenge will be production volumes, but Chinese buyers have already shown interest in Georgian honey. After inspections, Chinese representatives will select which facilities are ready for export.
Tetruashvili noted that Georgian producers plan to enter the Chinese market with high-quality honey rather than large quantities. He said China largely consumes imported premium honey, while domestic production is often associated with lower quality or adulteration concerns.
He added that China already shows interest in Georgian honey, but success will depend on whether local producers can consistently supply high-quality products.
