The Georgian Parliament is considering amendments to the Law “On Motorways” that would expand the roadside zone along roads of international importance from 100 meters to 200 meters on both sides of the road. The announcement was made by Shota Berekashvili, a member of the Georgian Dream party, during a meeting of the Economic Policy Committee. Under the proposed changes, any activity within this expanded zone would require prior approval from the road owner.

During the parliamentary discussion, Shalva Kereselidze of the "Gakharia-For Georgia" party raised concerns about enforcement, noting that the current 100-meter regulation is frequently violated and questioning how the new law would be implemented effectively.

Responding, Shota Berekashvili emphasized that violations should be addressed by the relevant authorities and that the amendment aligns with European Union standards. He clarified that existing objects protected by law will not be affected, and any illegal or improperly legalized constructions should be dealt with in accordance with the law.

The amendment aims to strengthen regulatory control along major highways, improve safety, and ensure compliance with international standards for roadside development and activity management.
