Parliament has begun an expedited review of new amendments to the “Labor Migration” law, just one month after its entry into force. According to the Chair of the Sectoral Economy Committee, the changes are aimed at correcting procedural issues that emerged through communication with businesses.

Under the proposed amendments, foreign nationals working fully remotely or engaged in short-term professional activities will no longer require a work permit. The rules will also not apply to foreign citizens employed by state enterprises. In addition, directors of first, second, and third-category companies will be exempt from the requirement to obtain a work permit.

Committee member Shota Berekashvili said the updates are intended to simplify procedures, support businesses, and ensure faster processes where labor shortages exist. He noted that the goal is to maintain a balanced labor market while also allowing companies to operate without disruptions caused by administrative delays.

According to Berekashvili, the changes are based on issues identified through ongoing communication with the business sector. He said the process is “living and dynamic,” aimed at improving both labor market regulation and business efficiency. The amendments are being reviewed under an accelerated procedure in Parliament.
