The Georgian Wheat and Flour Producers Association has rejected claims from bakers that locally produced flour is of lower quality than imported, particularly Russian, flour. The association says the domestic market currently offers sufficient quantities of high-quality Georgian flour that meets and exceeds required standards.
In a statement, the association said recent claims that bakers lack access to high-gluten flour due to the import duty on flour are inaccurate. According to the organization, flour produced by Georgian mills, including those represented by the association, complies with Georgia’s technical regulations and in many cases surpasses Russian flour in quality parameters.
The association also noted that several thousand tons of imported flour, including Russian products, continue to enter Georgia every month, ensuring competition and consumer choice in the market.
The organization called on bakers’ representatives to avoid making unsubstantiated statements and again proposed conducting a comparative quality analysis between Georgian and Russian first-grade flour to establish the facts.
