The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia has formally indicted former Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, the Prosecutor General announced today.

According to the statement, Garibashvili has been charged under Article 134, Part 3, Subparagraph G of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which pertains to the legalization of illegal income. The Prosecutor General said that the defendant has fully pleaded guilty.

The investigation determined that, during his tenure, Irakli Garibashvili was secretly and covertly involved in various business activities, through which he received a particularly large amount of income of illegal origin.

The Prosecutor’s Office also stated that Garibashvili had submitted false information in his asset declarations, falsely claiming to have received large sums of money each year as gifts from a family member.

Prosecutors have requested that the court impose a bail of 1 million GEL and a travel ban preventing Garibashvili from leaving the country.
