Georgian Railway has announced a GEL 4.8 million tender for the rehabilitation of historic stations and infrastructure on the Borjomi–Bakuriani narrow-gauge railway.

According to the State Procurement Agency, the estimated value of the project is GEL 4,813,156, with bids to be accepted from June 27 to July 2. The tender will be carried out under a Design-Build model, covering both design documentation and construction works within a single contract.

The project involves the restoration of six railway heritage sites in Borjomi municipality, including stations in Bakuriani, Daba, Tsemi, Libani, and Tsaghveri, as well as the administrative building and passenger platforms of the railway line.

The works aim to preserve the historical character of the sites while restoring damaged structures, improving passenger infrastructure, and enhancing tourism potential. Planned rehabilitation includes roofs, facades, windows, interiors, platforms, and engineering systems such as electricity, water supply, sewage, heating, and safety infrastructure.

The selected contractor will be required to prepare full design documentation within seven days of signing the contract, followed by 120 calendar days for construction works after approval. The project also requires experience in both design and construction, including work on cultural heritage sites.

The 37-km Borjomi–Bakuriani narrow-gauge railway, built between 1897 and 1902, has held cultural heritage status since 2017. Many of the targeted stations have been out of operation since 2020 and are currently in a deteriorated condition.
