Georgia aims to ensure that investments in Georgian Railway translate into better services and greater comfort for passengers, Deputy Economy Minister Tamar Ioseliani said as rehabilitation work began at Tbilisi Central Railway Station.

Ioseliani said the railway modernization program includes not only infrastructure and rolling stock upgrades but also the renovation of stations nationwide. Tbilisi Central is a key regional transport hub serving large numbers of passengers daily, making its rehabilitation particularly important.

The project, valued at approximately GEL 7 million, includes the full renovation of the first, second and third platforms, the installation of four escalators to replace pedestrian stairs, and upgrades to passenger waiting areas. Work is scheduled for completion in autumn 2027.
