Georgia considers the Middle Corridor as an integrated system that should become more competitive, reliable and efficient, Deputy Economy Minister Tamar Ioseliani said, commenting on a new World Bank report.

According to Ioseliani, a combination of infrastructure projects and other measures could increase cargo volumes nearly fourfold by 2040 and reduce transportation times by around two-thirds. The World Bank estimates that the measures could raise regional GDP by about 3.3% and create roughly 2 million jobs.

Ioseliani said infrastructure development remains a key priority of Georgia’s economic policy. The government plans to invest around $7 billion in core transport infrastructure through 2032, including the Anaklia Deep Sea Port, modernization of the railway system and development of international airports.

She emphasized the importance of cooperation with international partners in developing the corridor as a unified system. The World Bank report covers nine countries - Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Türkiye, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan—and projects that the corridor’s capacity could quadruple by 2040 while travel times fall by two-thirds.
