Georgia aims to increase the number of passengers served by Kutaisi International Airport from around 2.5 million to approximately 5 million in the future, Deputy Economy Minister Tamar Ioseliani said. She noted that the United Airports of Georgia is actively working to add new destinations from Kutaisi.

Ioseliani said construction of a new runway is expected to be completed by the end of the year, allowing the airport to accommodate larger aircraft. The terminal is also being expanded, while new digital systems and passenger services, including a business lounge, have been introduced.

Kutaisi Airport currently serves 24 destinations with Wizz Air, while flights operate to 31 cities in 16 countries overall. Passenger traffic rose from 1.6 million in 2023 to around 1.7 million in 2024 and more than 1.8 million in 2025, according to Ioseliani.

She said passenger traffic has continued to show positive growth in the first eight months of 2026 despite challenges facing the global aviation sector. Ioseliani also highlighted Wizz Air’s role in the airport’s development, noting that the airline operated Kutaisi’s first international flight to Kyiv and established its first base there in 2016.
