Georgian Railway recorded a record level of freight transportation in the first half of 2026, according to the company’s CEO Lasha Abashidze. He said the company transported around 7 million tons of cargo in January-June, which positively affected its financial performance.
According to Abashidze, the company’s revenue reached approximately GEL 372 million in the first six months of the year, representing a 19% increase compared with the same period of 2025. He added that the company also improved its EBITDA margin, with operating profit reaching GEL 92 million, around 25% higher year-on-year.
The company’s net profit also increased significantly, rising from GEL 64 million in the first half of 2025 to GEL 112 million in the same period of 2026.
According to Georgian Railway’s 2025 annual report, the company employed 10,719 people at the end of last year, 9% fewer than in 2024. Despite the reduction in staff, average salaries increased by 12.2% to GEL 1,829, while total payroll expenses reached GEL 246.4 million. The company also continues its digitalization strategy aimed at improving operational efficiency.
