Georgia’s External Debt Is Up In May

The Ministry of Finance has published a report on Georgia’s External Debt for May 2024. According to the document, the total debt amounted to USD 8.7 billion, which was USD 46 million up than in April.

The government of Georgia borrows foreign debt mainly for financing large infrastructure projects, among which the most expensive projects are the East-West Highway, as well as the new North-South connecting highway. International donors also allocate funds for the country's regional development projects and budget-supporting credits.
