Georgia’s Installed Power Capacity Projected to Nearly Double by 2035 – G&T

ჰესი

According to Galt & Taggart’s base scenario, Georgia’s installed electricity capacity is expected to reach 8.8 GW by 2035, nearly doubling from today’s level of around 4.8 GW. The projection is included in the investment bank’s report on electricity trade prospects in Georgia and the wider Caucasus region.

The study notes that the government’s more ambitious plan foresees even faster expansion, targeting 11.5 GW by 2036. This reflects ongoing efforts to scale up generation capacity through new infrastructure and renewable energy development.

Currently, the Georgian power system is dominated by hydropower, which accounts for about 3.5 GW, followed by 1.2 GW of thermal power plants. Solar and wind remain marginal, with only around 50 MW combined installed capacity.

Under the government’s 10-year plan, an additional 6.8 GW of hydro, solar, and wind capacity is expected to be added to the system, significantly reshaping the country’s energy mix.
