Georgia’s Pension Fund has exceeded GEL 10.1 billion, up more than GEL 100 million over the past month, mainly due to monthly contributions. The fund holds savings for 1,585,989 citizens, with average savings of GEL 6,386. Some GEL 10 billion, or 99.3% of total savings, is invested in the conservative portfolio.
Participants are automatically enrolled in the conservative portfolio, while 10,354 citizens have switched to balanced or dynamic portfolios as of September 2026. The dynamic portfolio generated the highest return in the first nine months of 2026 at 8.87%, followed by the balanced portfolio at 8.75% and the conservative portfolio at 8.46%.
The conservative portfolio mainly holds lari-denominated assets such as bank certificates of deposit and treasury securities, with 19.1% in foreign-currency assets. Lari assets account for 63% of the balanced portfolio and 44.2% of the dynamic portfolio, with the latter having greater exposure to international stock indices.
Under Georgia’s funded pension system, employers and employees each contribute 2% of salary, while the state contributes another 2% from income tax revenues. A total of 6% of salary is therefore contributed to the pension fund each month, in addition to investment returns.
