Georgia’s Spring Crop Sown Area Falls to 12.8% – Geostat

Georgia’s total sown area for spring crops reached 113.1 thousand hectares in the first half of 2026, down 12.8% (16.6 thousand hectares) from the same period last year, according to Geostat’s preliminary data.

The sharpest decline was recorded in cereals and cereal-legume crops, whose sown area fell 14.4% from 90.1 thousand to 77.1 thousand hectares. Corn accounted for 60.8 thousand hectares, down 13.6% from 70.4 thousand hectares a year earlier.

Potato and vegetable/melon crop areas decreased 8.8% to 24.9 thousand hectares, while other spring crops declined 9.7% to 11.2 thousand hectares.

Long-term data also show a downward trend. Spring crop sown areas fell from 150.5 thousand hectares in 2020 to 130.4 thousand hectares in 2025, a 13.4% decrease. Cereal crops, including corn, declined from 82.4 thousand hectares in 2020 to 71.0 thousand hectares in 2025.
