The volume of state debt amounted to 31.57 billion GEL in January 2021, the Ministry of Finance of Georgia reports.
Debt growth in January alone amounted to 735 million GEL. Including, the external debt balance increased by 1.037 billion, while the domestic debt balance was 302 million GEL down. At present, state debt exceeds 60% of GDP.
Including, 25.7 billion GEL is foreign debt, while 5.84 billion GEL is domestic debt, which the government receives through the issuance of treasury bonds.
According to the 2021 budget, the government will take a new loan of 5.27 billion GEL this year. Of this, 1.45 billion GEL will be spent on investment infrastructure projects, budget support loans will be 2.17 billion GEL, and the government plans to refinance Eurobonds worth $ 500 million with 1.65 million GEL.
