Georgia’s State Security Service has arrested three Georgian citizens on charges related to commercial bribery, falsification of official documents, and assisting in criminal activities involving the illegal issuance of vehicle inspection approvals.

According to the SUS Anti-Corruption Agency, the investigation found that the suspects, with the assistance of an employee of the Tech-2017 technical inspection center in Marneuli, were systematically arranging positive periodic inspection results for technically defective vehicles in exchange for illegal financial benefits.

The agency said that despite the vehicles failing to meet legal requirements, false information was deliberately entered into inspection records, allowing faulty vehicles to receive approval certificates. Investigators allege that the suspects regularly received payments from citizens for the illegal service.

The investigation is being conducted under several articles of Georgia’s Criminal Code, including commercial bribery and document falsification. If convicted, the offenses carry a penalty of up to six years in prison.
