"Georgia's Strategic Advantage: Access to the Sea and the Anaklia Port Project"

დავით წიკლაური

Davit Tsiklauri, Head of Private Sector Development at PMCG, outlined Georgia’s key competitive advantages within the regional context. He emphasized the country’s role as a facilitator, its access to the sea, and the potential of the Anaklia port and city project as pivotal assets.

Speaking on Analitics, Tsiklauri discussed how Georgia excels in facilitating dialogue between different parties and driving a shared economic vision. He highlighted that Georgia’s unique position, particularly through the Anaklia project, involves not just a port but a city that will contribute to economic growth through added value in sectors like processing and logistics. This value-added role, especially in transit of Central Asian, European, and Chinese goods, is often overlooked.

Tsiklauri further stressed that Georgia’s access to the Black Sea gives it a significant edge over Armenia and Azerbaijan, as goods transported via sea are cheaper and more efficient. "We have what neither Armenia nor Azerbaijan have—access to the sea, which is crucial for economic development," he stated. He added that controlling the Black Sea, and having American ships in the region, could offer long-term strategic benefits. However, he urged the acceleration of the Anaklia port development to fully capitalize on this advantage before other competing corridors catch up.
