The volume of transit cargo passing through Georgia increased by 109% between 2018 and 2025, according to a report by the PMC Research Center. Transit volumes reached a record 15.1 million tons in 2024 before falling by 9.5% to 13.7 million tons in 2025.
The decline was mainly driven by a 7.8% drop in East-West route cargo. Despite the decrease, the route remained dominant, accounting for nearly 70% of Georgia’s total transit cargo in 2025.
Cargo transported through the Middle Corridor totaled 4.6 million tons in 2025, down by 5% year-on-year. Declines on the EU-Azerbaijan and EU-Central Asia routes were partly offset by growth in Turkey-Central Asia (+21%) and Turkey-Azerbaijan (+4%) flows.
Road transport remained the leading mode, handling 55% of transit cargo, or 7.5 million tons, while rail accounted for 45%, or 6.2 million tons. Between 2018 and 2025, road transit grew 124.7%, compared with 93.2% growth in rail cargo.
