After a decline last year, Georgia’s vanilla imports increased in the first quarter of 2026, with France emerging as the country’s primary supplier.

According to official statistics, Georgia imported 300 kilograms of vanilla worth a total of $27,200 between January and March of this year. While the value of imported vanilla increased 11.3 times year-over-year, the volume actually decreased by 100 kilograms. This indicates a sharp rise in the average price of vanilla.

The average price of 1 kilogram of imported vanilla reached $90 in 2026, compared to just $6 last year.

The price surge is largely attributed to significant increases in vanilla prices in France — Georgia’s main import partner. In the first three months of this year, Georgia purchased 100 kilograms of vanilla worth $26,900 from France. By contrast, there were no imports from France during the same period last year, and in the first quarter of 2024, 100 kilograms of French vanilla cost just $3,700.

Georgia also sourced vanilla from other countries this year:

  • Turkey supplied 100 kilograms worth $300
  • Belgium supplied a small quantity worth $100

According to official data, Georgia’s total vanilla imports dropped by 73% last year, amounting to $21,300. The average price per kilogram in 2025 was $17.70. The main supplier countries were France, Turkey, Poland, Spain, Germany, the Netherlands, and Morocco.
