The Government of Georgia has approved the construction of modern university cities in Kutaisi and Rustavi, designed to meet contemporary standards.
According to the Ministry of Infrastructure, the estimated cost of project-related works is GEL 800 million, while the estimated cost for property valuation and acquisition within the university city areas is GEL 210 million. The infrastructure works, including design, construction, and supervision, are scheduled for 2026–2032.
“The implementation of measures for constructing the university cities has been entrusted to the Municipal Development Fund of Georgia, a legal entity under the Ministry of Infrastructure. Following government instructions, the Fund will prepare detailed project and cost documentation and manage the procurement of construction and supervisory services, ensuring the creation of fully equipped university infrastructure in both locations,” the Ministry said.
Once completed, the project will establish a modern, regionally distributed university system in Georgia, providing students with education meeting international standards, research opportunities, and full campus life. The new campuses will accommodate an additional 20,000 students in Kutaisi and 40,000 in Rustavi, creating high-quality spaces for tens of thousands of students and unlocking the potential for regional development.
