The Georgian government is creating a special unit within the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) focused on monitoring hate speech and aggressive communication in the public sphere. The announcement was made by Mamuka Mdinaradze, the State Minister for Coordination of Law Enforcement Agencies, during a press briefing at the Government Administration.

According to Mdinaradze, the new department is being formed in consultation with the MIA, and its primary function will be to monitor hate speech, offensive language, and aggressive communication in public spaces, as well as to ensure legal responses when necessary.

The department will operate in a proactive mode, meaning that its actions will not depend solely on citizen complaints. Instead, the agency will independently conduct monitoring, make legal assessments, and refer cases to the courts when required.

Mdinaradze noted that the oversight will apply to all types of public communication that may contain hate speech or incite animosity.
