The state plans to acquire around 1,800 privately owned land plots for the construction of the new Rustavi University City near the Tbilisi–Rustavi highway. The estimated cost of purchasing currently registered properties stands at GEL 93.2 million, according to information provided by the Municipal Development Fund.

The project area currently includes 1,797 registered land plots with a combined area of 1.58 million square meters. Based on the estimated value, the average acquisition price is around GEL 59 per square meter. The National Bureau of Forensic Expertise assessed the properties before the government began the acquisition process.

So far, the state has already purchased 557 land plots with a total area of 475,165 square meters, paying GEL 28 million. The average price for the acquired properties was also approximately GEL 59 per square meter.

The Rustavi University City is planned near the city entrance, in the area below the Gachiani Bridge. The project includes the construction of university facilities, student housing, spaces for academic staff, recreational areas, and other educational infrastructure. According to the government’s plan, the campus will be able to accommodate up to 40,000 students. The wider university city initiative, which also includes a project in Kutaisi, is estimated to require around GEL 800 million in infrastructure investment, with land acquisition costs expected at approximately GEL 210 million. Construction-related activities are planned for 2026–2032.
