Education Minister Givi Mikanadze says school uniforms will be introduced gradually, starting this year with students from grades I–VI, with one additional grade added each year.
According to the minister, the goal is to help children adapt to “uniform culture” over time. Under the plan, all first-graders will receive new uniforms on September 15, featuring the Georgian state emblem, while students from grades I–VI will be fully equipped during the first semester.
Mikanadze emphasized that the uniforms will meet international quality standards, noting that materials will include tested fabric blends with anti-allergic lining. He also said pricing is still being finalized but will be significantly lower than private school uniforms.
According to the minister, families with a social rating of 65,000 points or below and with primary school children will receive uniforms free of charge. The uniforms will be produced by a Chinese company described as a leading manufacturer in the sector, which has already begun cooperation with Georgia.
