The Georgian government has decided to privatize state-owned natural gas infrastructure at a symbolic price of GEL 1, aiming to improve consumers’ social conditions and increase the efficiency of gas supply.

Under a government decree issued on September 4, infrastructure created by Georgian Gas Transportation Company LLC and subsequently transferred to state ownership will be sold directly to owners of natural gas distribution systems operating in the relevant licensed areas.

The infrastructure will be transferred to private companies that operate as distribution system operators in the respective licensed areas. The GEL 1 price will apply to the direct sale of gas distribution infrastructure built by the Georgian Gas Transportation Company and transferred to the state.

The government says the measure is intended to improve the social conditions of natural gas consumers and enhance the efficiency of gas distribution. The transactions will be carried out directly with the relevant private distribution system operators.
