Georgia's State Electrosystem (GSE) has announced a GEL 4.34 million tender to procure supervision and consulting services for the country's first large-scale battery energy storage system (BESS), which is being financed through a $104 million loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
The project provides the design, supply, installation, and commissioning of a 200 MW battery energy storage system at the Ksani substation near Tbilisi. The selected international engineering and consulting firm will oversee project implementation, review technical designs and documentation, and supervise factory and on-site testing before commissioning.
To qualify, bidders must have completed at least one energy infrastructure supervision project financed by an international financial institution, such as the ADB or World Bank, since 2018. Tender submissions will be accepted between August 2 and August 8.
According to Georgia's 2026 budget, GEL 35 million was earmarked for the project during the first half of the year, although no funds have been spent so far. The battery system will be installed near the Ksani 500 substation in Mtskheta Municipality and is expected to enhance grid reliability by providing backup power during emergencies and periods of peak demand.
