GT Group has won the international tender to supply 111 new metro cars to Tbilisi City Hall, sourcing the trains from China’s leading rail manufacturer, CRRC. The value of the agreement, signed today, is EUR 150 million, financed by the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).

Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze announced the outcome, noting that the original tender aimed to purchase 97 cars for EUR 130 million. However, the scope was later expanded to 111 cars, raising the total value to EUR 150 million. This sets the price per car at approximately EUR 1.35 million (about 4.3 million GEL).

Train Configuration & Technical Specs
The order will include:

  • 14 trains with 4 cars
  • 11 trains with 5 cars

Each carriage will meet the following specifications:

  • Length: 18.5–19.5 meters (including coupling)
  • Height: 3.65 meters
  • Width: 2.7 meters
  • Passenger Capacity: up to 280 passengers per car, allowing 1,400 passengers per 5-car train

Delivery of the new metro cars is scheduled to begin in 2026 and will continue over the course of five years.

CRRC is among the world’s top metro train manufacturers, with experience supplying rolling stock to major cities in China (Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong), as well as internationally in Ankara, Buenos Aires, Manila, and several U.S. cities, including Boston, Chicago, and Los Angeles.
