The Chairman of Armenia’s State Revenue Committee, Rustam Badasyan, announced his resignation in an open letter published on the official Facebook page of the agency. His departure marks another in a series of high-profile resignations following recent criticism from the Prime Minister.
In his farewell message, Badasyan highlighted the achievements of the tax service under his leadership, including improvements in service accessibility and the strengthening of tax discipline. He expressed confidence that these efforts would yield positive results when every Armenian citizen recognizes the importance of paying taxes for the country’s development.
Badasyan’s resignation comes amidst a large-scale reshuffle in the country’s leadership. Earlier, the Minister of Territorial Administration Gnel Sanosyan, Minister of Internal Affairs Vahe Ghazaryan, Chairman of the Investigative Committee Argishti Kyaramyan, Head of the Anti-Corruption Committee Sasun Khachatryan, and Chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council Karen Andreasyan also stepped down.
The wave of resignations in Armenia followed a strongly-worded speech by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on November 14, where he voiced extreme dissatisfaction with the performance of law enforcement and judicial systems. On November 18, the Prime Minister officially confirmed that he had requested the resignation of several high-ranking officials.
