Healthcare costs in Georgia continue to rise. According to official Geostat data, from April 2021 to April 2026 hospital services increased by up to 37%. Over the same period, the price of a therapist’s consultation jumped more than 50%, while dental services rose by over 60%.
The healthcare sector attributes this inflation to rising expenses across key cost components. As the Chair of the Georgian Healthcare Association’s Supervisory Board explains, prices have increased for medications and medical supplies, staff salaries, and indirect costs, including utility bills.
Key drivers of rising prices include:
- Medical supplies & medication: steady price growth over the past five years
- Salaries: notable increases, especially in the last 2–3 years
- Utilities: doubled over the same period
While prices for services covered by the Universal Healthcare Program cannot increase due to fixed DRG tariffs, clinics have more flexibility to adjust prices for services not covered by the program — and those prices are rising.
According to industry representatives, consultation fees now typically range from 70 to 100 GEL, depending on the specialty and demand.
Rising medical service costs are also pushing up health insurance premiums. In April alone, insurance prices rose 8.53%, and over the past five years have climbed 31.28%. Insurance companies note that post-COVID inflation has accelerated cost increases across all components of health coverage, making policy price adjustments unavoidable.
