Georgia's electricity exports have dropped to a 6-year low.

According to the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat), in the first 7 months of this year, electricity exports generated $11 million, which is half the amount recorded in the same period last year and the lowest figure since 2020.

Electricity Exports (First 7 Months)
2021: $14.8 million
2022: $64.7 million
2023: $77.3 million
2024: $45.8 million

During this period, 2023 stood out for electricity export revenues, exceeding $77.3 million in the first 7 months.

According to data from the Georgian State Electrosystem (GSE), 235.76 million kWh of electricity was exported during the first 7 months of this year. Of this total, 66.7 million kWh went to Azerbaijan, which primarily reflects the parallel operation of the two countries' power systems.
The remaining 169 million kWh was exported to Turkey. However, due to lower prices in Turkey this year, the market was less attractive for Georgian energy companies. Against this backdrop, the power system had to impose mandatory generation curtailments on local power plants.
