GNERC published its annual report for 2023. According to the document, 7 hydroelectric power plants with a total installed capacity of 29 MW were put into operation last year.

In more detail, one 20.3 MW power plant and 6 smaller power plants (with a total installed capacity of 8.7 MW) were put into operation:

Mestiachala-1 - 20.3 MW;
Dmanisi HPP - 2.0 MW;
Toloshi HPP - 1.7 megawatts;
Roshka and Roshka-1 HPP - 2.5 MW;
Korsha and Korsha-1 HPP - 2.5 MW.

It should be noted that Mestiachala-1 HPP was commissioned again last year. The HPP was first put into operation in 2019, but was stopped due to an incident caused by a flood.

GNERC's report also mentions that based on the data of 2013-2023, electricity generation in Georgia increases by 3.7% on average every year, which is due to electricity generated by power plants commissioned and rehabilitated in current years, in addition to hydrology.

Last year, electricity production (distribution to salt) increased slightly by 1% compared to the previous year, and by 13.6% compared to 2021.

As for electricity consumption, in 2023 in Georgia, it decreased by 7.6% compared to the previous year, and by 4.3% compared to 2021. Electricity consumption in Georgia grew by 3.3% annually on average in 2013-2023.
