39,000 Russian citizens have opened banking accounts in Georgia since February 24, 2022.
Georgian commercial banks have the highest demand for the opening of accounts in April, when more than 10,000 citizens opened their accounts. Moreover, 7,000 Russian citizens opened their banking accounts in July.
Statistics of Opening Banking Accounts:
• 24.02.2022 - 24.03.2022 - 7,875 citizens of Russia;
• 24.03.2022 - 01.05.2022 - 10,078 citizens of Russia;
• 01.05.2022 - 31.05.2022 - 6,647 citizens of Russia;
• 01.06.2022 - 30.06.2023 - 7,374 citizens of Russia;
• 01.07.2022 – 31.07.2022 - 6,985 citizens of Russia.
According to the National Bank of Georgia (NBG), over 34 thousand Russian citizens have demanded deposits. As of the NBG, transactions of GEL 1.6 billion have been made from Russian commercial banks in July, while the volume of outgoing payment transactions has made up GEL 346 million.
The statistics show that over 35-40 thousand Russian citizens have stayed in Georgia for a long term.
