During Q2 2023 a total of 82 driving licenses has been issued in Georgia for the citizens of foreign countries. The number was 49 during Q1 2023. The bulk share of foreigners receiving driving license issued by Georgian authorities were the citizens of the Russian Federation, according to the preliminary data of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia.
More specifically, 30 Russian citizens became the driving license holders issued in Georgia during the second quarter of 2023. The figure stood at 14 for the first quarter.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Georgia a total of 79 driving licenses were issued in Georgia for Russian citizens during 2022. For comparison, the number stood at 33 for the citizens of Ukraine. Only two Ukrainians received the license in Q2 of 2023 and only four - in Q1 2023.
To recall, following the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, an estimated 100,000 Russian citizens and residents are estimated to have left Russia by mid-March 2022 as economic migrants. In September 2022 alone 222,274 people entered Georgia from Russia, according to MIA.
