Following studies on food, medicine, and fuel prices, the Georgian government has now tasked itself with examining pesticide costs, recognizing their impact on agricultural product prices. The announcement was made at today’s cabinet meeting.
Official statistics show that Georgia imported 26,102 tons of mineral and chemical nitrogen fertilizers in 2025, worth $9.6 million, marking an 18% drop in volume compared to 2024, when imports reached a record 31,951 tons ($10.8 million). Russia remains the dominant supplier, accounting for 60% of total fertilizer imports.
Fertilizer exports are also significant. In 2025, nitrogen fertilizers ranked 10th among Georgia’s export goods, with 423,664 tons exported ($132 million), an 11.1% increase over the previous year. Key export markets included Romania, Spain, Tanzania, Lithuania, and India.
The Georgian Competition and Consumer Protection Agency (GCCA) began monitoring the retail market for pesticides and agrochemicals last year, analyzing price formation and market conditions. Currently, over 1,000 pesticide products and nearly 1,450 fertilizers from 60 and more local importers are registered in the country.
