Zurab Uchumbegashvili, chairman of Poultry Development Association declares, that prime cost of the products increased by 7-10% in the last months due to the price growth on packaging materials. As he notes, termination of the electricity tariff subsidy for Georgian production from the beginning of the year also had impact on the price hike.
According to him, the sector will get a decision on price increase from early February after they have full picture on their expenditures.
"We buy packaging materials, food at an increased price ... This increases the cost of the final product by at least 7-10%, but we will try to offset the price increase; we are not increasing prices from tomorrow, it depends on how much the prime cost of the product will increase”, - Zurab Uchumbegashvili explained.
Representatives of companies say that the sector is on standby mode and decisions will be made in 1-2 weeks.
"The price of chicken feed that is not produced locally has increased by 50-60%, so the cost of products must be increased, otherwise our business will be unprofitable," Mirian Chitadze, head of Pasteur, told BMG.
Poultry company Chirina declares that the prime cost of the product increased by 25% in 2021, while the product price hiked only by 12%. The company deeply hopes that they will keep the price on Biu-Biu products for the next months.
"The right decision would be to exempt products such as eggs and poultry from VAT, it would be acceptable for the population, because it would have less impact on the inflation. In my opinion, it would be good if this decision is made by the government as soon as possible. We try not to increase the price and try to keep it as much as possible, but it happens at the expense of the company's resources, "- Revaz Vashakidze, the founder of the company Chirina told BMG.
NUTRIMAX, a company producing animal and poultry feed confirms that price for animal feed increased by over 40% in 2021.
Beka Bekaia, director of the company declared that the situation remained unstable and there were no expectations on price decrease.
